Several gray bodies slipped out of the opening. They were rats – huge, with shiny eyes. They darted across the floor, and the dog chased them furiously.
But the worst was inside.
When the officer tore the upholstery further, everyone saw: inside the sofa cavities was a real nest. It was teeming with a whole family – dozens of rats, with newborn pups, heaps of gray bodies wriggling and squeaking.
— “How did they get in there?” whispered the man in the wheelchair, turning pale. The dog barked and tried to grab the rats, but the officer pulled it back.
Even he, having seen a lot, was shocked by the scale.
The sofa, where the family had sat for years, watched TV, and hosted guests, was a breeding ground for a living nightmare. The woman couldn’t take it anymore – her hands shook, and she nearly screamed:
— “We sat ON THIS?!”
The officer nodded seriously:
— “Yes. But now we’ll take care of it.
Your home is no longer a place for them.”
Only then did the couple realize that the strange noises they had been hearing for weeks were not their imagination at all.
