My name is David, and I’ve been a single father since my wife passed away when Emily was four. Emily is my whole world. She recently graduated from college and started working at a creative startup.

I realized she was silently asking for help without saying a word. I quietly excused myself, went into the kitchen, and dialed 911, explaining that my daughter might be in danger. I stayed calm, returned to the table, and kept the conversation light until officers arrived.
